Description

Apple MacBook 13" 2.4GHz Product Description

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR3 memory
250GB hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics
Built-in 10-hour battery
Polycarbonate unibody enclosure

From the curve of the unibody enclosure to the glass of the Multi-Touch trackpad, every aspect of the MacBook has been carefully considered and then considered again.

Durable unibody enclosure.
A mere 1.08 inches thin and only 4.7 pounds,1 the sleek MacBook cuts
a slim profile on any desk (or in any backpack or briefcase). It features
a seamless, durable unibody enclosure with rounded contours that make
it easy to pick up and slide into and out of your bag. It’s made of rugged polycarbonate that withstands the rough and tumble of everyday life at school, at work, or while traveling. And since the bottom of the MacBook is covered in a nonslip material, it always stays right where you put it — whether it's on a desk, table, or airplane tray.

Quality screen time.
MacBook features an LED-backlit 13.3-inch glossy widescreen display for a spectacular viewing experience. Documents, videos, photos, and games look incredibly sharp and detailed. The LED backlighting delivers stunning colors and instant full-screen brightness the moment you open the lid. And its 1280-by-800-pixel resolution offers an outstanding balance of luminous color and easy readability in a perfectly portable size.

Spacious glass Multi-Touch trackpad.
The MacBook Multi-Touch trackpad has no button because it is the button. That means there’s plenty of room to move your fingers around, and you can click anywhere — left, right, center, and everywhere in between. The trackpad features a silky smooth glass surface that feels great to the fingertips. Use it to perform familiar functions such as right-clicking, as well as Multi-Touch gestures: pinch to increase font size in a document, rotate your fingers to reorient photos, swipe to navigate through web pages, and more. And now with inertial scrolling, moving up and down documents and web pages feels completely smooth.

A comfortable keyboard your fingers will love.
MacBook portability doesn’t happen at the expense of key features. The keyboard is full size, with keys that are curved to contain your fingers and highly responsive to your touch. Its low-profile design integrates perfectly into the unibody enclosure, so you’ll get a comfortable experience whether you’re typing a quick email or writing a lengthy research report. The keyboard also gives you one-touch access to music and video controls and Mac OS X features such as Dashboard and Exposé.

Easy access to connections and ports.
The connections and ports on MacBook — MagSafe power, Gigabit Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, USB, and audio in/out — are all smartly integrated on the same side of the notebook. So your cables stay neatly organized, and connecting and disconnecting your devices is easy and convenient.

Clean, simple interior design.
MacBook is as well designed on the inside as on the outside. Turn it over and you’ll notice a seamless,
sturdy, single-piece bottom case with no battery compartment. That’s because the lithium-polymer battery is strategically built right into the enclosure. In addition to providing extra overall durability, this integrated design eliminates the space-consuming parts required by a removable battery. This allows more room for a larger-capacity battery and provides an even longer battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge2 — all in an enclosure that is thin and light. When you remove the bottom case, you’ll discover a clean, simple interior
layout that makes it easy to add more memory or a larger hard drive.

Friendly to the environment.
MacBook is designed to have less impact on the environment than most other computers. It’s more energy efficient, free of many toxic materials, and made of recyclable materials.

A brilliant display. A Multi-Touch trackpad. A fast processor. And a battery that won’t tie you down. What more could you want in an affordable notebook?

An LED-backlit display of brilliance.
13.3-inch glossy widescreen.
The moment you open your new MacBook, its glossy LED-backlit display greets you with glorious, full-screen brightness and brings your photos, movies, and presentations alive with luminous color. The widescreen resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels gives you plenty of room to multitask, yet it’s compact enough to take anywhere. And the display is greener than ever: power efficient, free of harmful toxins such as mercury, and made of arsenic-free glass.

High performance comes standard.
Action hero.

MacBook features the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor. With a performance boost of up to 80 percent over the previous generation,2 it provides outstanding speed and power for things like browsing photos and watching movies. Its advanced architecture delivers smooth, responsive action for games like Spore, Call of Duty, and Sims 3. So you can immerse yourself in digital worlds that come to life with rich color, fine detail, and fluid gameplay. And when you’re not busy beating your high scores, the new NVIDIA graphics processor makes all the other things you do on a MacBook — like writing email and surfing the web — fast and energy efficient.

Productivity expert.
With a fast 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, MacBook breezes through everyday tasks such as emailing, web browsing, and working with documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in iWork or Microsoft Office for Mac (sold separately). It also provides plenty of horsepower for more processor-intensive activities such as retouching a photo in iPhoto, editing an iMovie project, and composing a new song using GarageBand, so you can make the most of the included iLife suite of applications. It even runs Microsoft Windows at native speeds. Better still, MacBook comes standard with 2GB of memory (with support for up to 4GB), so you can run multiple applications smoothly and efficiently.

Personal librarian.
Music, photos, and movies — not to mention your documents and other files — start adding up. That’s why MacBook offers plenty of storage space. It includes a large 250GB hard drive with options up to a voluminous 500GB, so you can take it all with you.3

The longest-lasting MacBook battery ever.
Up to 10 hours per charge, up to 1000 recharges.

Take MacBook with you everywhere without worrying about plugging in or even carrying your power adapter. Its built-in lithium-polymer battery now lasts up to 10 hours on a single charge,1 which makes it perfect for long flights, all-day workshops, and marathon study sessions. The new energy-efficient NVIDIA integrated graphics processor improves battery life by using less power for everyday tasks like writing email and surfing the web. And thanks to advanced battery chemistry and adaptive charging technology, the MacBook battery can be recharged up to 1000 times — good for about five years of typical use — and lasts nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries.4 That makes for less waste. And that, in turn, makes for one environmentally friendly battery.

One amazing Multi-Touch trackpad.
More room to navigate,
more ways to interact.

The first thing you might notice — or not notice — about the Multi-Touch trackpad is the button. The entire trackpad is the button, so you can click anywhere on the touch-friendly glass surface. Not having a separate button also makes for a larger trackpad surface, giving your fingers more room to move, click, and gesture. And because the trackpad supports Multi-Touch gestures, you can use one or more fingers to interact with your documents, images, and applications with gestures such as pinch, swipe, and rotate. Move up and down a document or web page smoothly with new built-in support for inertial scrolling. And if you come from a right-click world, you can configure a right-click area on the trackpad or simply press with two fingers.

MagSafe and more. Much more.
Even the power cord is an innovation.
The MagSafe Power Adapter has a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So if someone happens to trip over the power cord while you’re working, it won’t send your new MacBook flying off a table or desk. Instead, the cord breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the system. As a bonus, you can tell if your MacBook is fully charged when the LED on the connector changes from amber to green.

Wireless that works.
Connect to the Internet at fast speeds anywhere thanks to built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi.5 Like everything else about a Mac, joining Wi-Fi networks couldn’t be simpler. If you’ve previously connected to a network, your Mac automatically logs you in so you can immediately email, surf the web, or video chat.6 Have a phone, headset, keyboard, or mouse with Bluetooth wireless technology? They can all connect to your MacBook courtesy of built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology — and it remembers all your devices, too.

Burn CDs and DVDs.
MacBook comes standard with a built-in SuperDrive. What makes it super? You can enjoy your favorite DVD movies and music CDs. You can burn your own CDs or DVDs to back up data or create your own music mixes. Or you can use the included iDVD software to burn Hollywood-style iMovie creations, then watch them on a DVD player.

Ports with possibilities.
With MacBook, you get easy plug-and-play support for your digital devices, including your digital camera, printer, external hard drive, mouse, and keyboard — not to mention your iPhone, iPad, and iPod. Just connect them to one of the handy ports. Want to expand your workspace? The Mini DisplayPort connects directly to an Apple LED Cinema Display, and supports VGA and DVI for connecting to a projector, as well as DisplayPort and HDMI for connecting to a flat-panel TV.7 MacBook also includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, a headphone jack that doubles as an audio-in port, and a convenient lock slot so you can keep your MacBook secure.

Video chat with anyone.
Built-in iSight camera.

Cleverly integrated — almost hidden — at the top of the MacBook display is an iSight camera that takes photos and shoots video. Use it with the built-in microphone and the included iChat software, and you can be anywhere without actually being there. Video chat with up to three of your friends, share a video with your mom, or give a presentation to a client.6 Use your iSight with Photo Booth to take quick pictures and add fun photo effects. Or use it with QuickTime X to record a video and share it on iTunes, MobileMe, or YouTube with just a click. Best of all, there’s no need to waste valuable primping time installing software or configuring the camera. Like everything Mac, iSight just works, right out of the box.

MacBook and the Environment
When it comes to being environmentally friendly, Apple approaches things differently — through our products. That’s why MacBook is energy efficient, free of many harmful toxins, and achieves an EPEAT Gold rating.1

Efficient power supply.
MacBook includes a highly efficient power supply that reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your computer. Lower power consumption reduces energy bills and lessens the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Advanced power management.
Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems, MacBook uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins down hard drives and activates sleep mode on already energy-efficient LED-backlit displays. And it balances tasks across both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between the letters you type. That’s just one of many ways Apple manages small amounts of power that add up to big savings.

ENERGY STAR qualification.
MacBook meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, making it ENERGY STAR qualified. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer’s typical annual power consumption.

Fewer toxins.
The greatest environmental challenge facing the computer industry today is the presence of arsenic, brominated flame retardants (BFRs), mercury, phthalates, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in products. Apple engineers have worked hard to eliminate BFRs and PVC from MacBook circuit boards, internal and external cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more.3 And they’ve eliminated many other toxins that are a common part of notebook computer manufacturing — choosing, for example, mercury-free backlighting and arsenic-free glass for the MacBook display.

Lasts up to five years.
The removable batteries in traditional notebooks are designed to be replaced every year or two, which means lots of batteries are used up and discarded. But the battery in the new MacBook lasts up to five years — or 1000 recharges. So it uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three, reducing waste and environmental impact.4 And to help ensure that batteries are disposed of in an environmentally responsible way, Apple offers a battery take-back program in 95 percent of the countries in which it does business.

Smaller boxes, fewer planes.
The new MacBook packaging is 53 percent smaller than that of the original MacBook. And smaller boxes are much better for the planet. Because smaller boxes mean we can fit more boxes on each shipping pallet. Which means more products will fit on each boat and plane. Which means fewer boats and planes are used, resulting in fewer CO2 emissions. It’s one seemingly minor change. But it has a major positive impact on our environment.

Recyclable materials.
Apple has minimized the waste when MacBook reaches end of life through its ultraefficient design and the use of recyclable materials such as high-grade polycarbonate, aluminum, and magnesium, which recyclers can reuse for other products.

EPEAT Gold rating.
Through its innovative and environmentally friendly design, MacBook has earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold.1 The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it’s designed and manufactured.
